Fun Baby Shower Games
When choosing games to play at a baby shower the selection seems endless. Some games are fun for all involved, while others are not fun at all. This article lists some of the easier or more unique games that are available.
The Name Game. This game can only be played if the parents have already chosen a name and they want to share it with everyone. This is very basic. Basically it is just taking the letters of the baby's name and forming new words. You can play this game anyway you like. You can use the first name, the middle name and the last name, only one name or any combination of the three. You can have this as a timed game or pass it out in the beginning and collect it at the end. You can choose winners at random, based upon the most answers, the most unique answers or the best and most entertaining answers.
Mother's Weight Warning. This is not a game for every party. You need to make sure the mother to be is comfortable with the game before deciding to play this one. Every guest will try to guess the mother-to-be's weight and the closest to wins a prize. You may also want to give a prize to the one who guesses the least (a surprise prize from the guest of honor) or who guesses the most, a prize for blindness or honesty.
Baby Bottle Bowling Bowling at a baby shower sounds a little dangerous. Honestly it can be fun! Set up baby bottles filled with either a liquid or a solid (like baby cereal), so the bottles are a little heavier. The contestants use a "bowling ball" to knock down the pins. Suitable balls include street hockey balls and tennis balls. You can play a certain amount of frames, or one frame, most strikes in three throws. This game can be a creative as you want it to be. The winner wins the prize.
Word Scramble. The word scramble is a basic game that can be played at any baby shower. Scramble up numerous baby related words, at least 10, no more than 25, and pass out the sheets to the guests face down. Let them know that they are going to participate in a timed game unscrambling baby words and the winner is the one with the most correct words at the end. Make sure you include some more challenging words to make a game out of it. If you have older guests include some old fashioned words or phrases as well.
Not Allowed Not allowed is a fun game to play at a baby shower. At the beginning of the shower you need to let all the guests know what words, phrases or actions are not allowed. This could be crossing your legs, or swearing or saying a certain name. Then you can pass out a baby related item such as pacifiers to the guests. Let the guests know that they each get one pacifier and if they see another guest doing an action or saying a phrase which is not allowed that they can then steal all of their pacifiers. Near the end of the party you can collect and count the pacifiers. The person with the most wins.
Baby Advice Game. Okay, maybe this is more of a keepsake than a game, but it is still a nice activity for a baby shower. Pass out nice scrapbooking paper, or pretty shapes like hearts or heavy colored cardboard, or buy a special book for this game. Allow all the guests to give any advice they want to the parents to be, for the parents to read later when they have the time. This is a nice activity because everyone can share their own advice and wisdom and the parents can take the time to read it later, instead of trying to sort through all of the unsolicited advice they usually get.
The above games are literally just the tip of the iceberg; there are so many different games that can be played at a baby shower. Baby showers can be fun but thy can also be hectic. Before making a decision on which games to play it is a good idea to ask the mother to be how she feels about each game.
